Bill Buckley described conservatism as a fight against the “Social Engineers” of society that want us all to conform to their version of a Utopia. It is the opposite of conservatism which supports the people making their own informed decisions. This Elitism has infiltrated our Republican Party. There are certain elements that want to control, coordinate, and run things. You are invited along for the ride but don’t get to control the direction of the boat. The result has been that people feel disenfranchised and pessimistic about their ability to truly affect change through the political process.
We have an example of this engineering in the 18th district. Certain Party insiders had information that this Legislative seat would come open. They only shared that with those in their inner circle. The result is a candidate who is now unopposed for this open seat.
“What could be wrong with that?” some may ask. The election cycle demands that the people get a choice. It is through this process that WE the people decide who the best candidate is and WE place them in office.
There are actually some serious pitfalls for a candidate to run unopposed. What mandate would he have in office? What could he confidently represent as the will of his constituents? He finds all this out in the open election process where we the people chose him with our vote and instill him with our confidence. This follows him into office and makes him a stronger legislator.
We need an open election process where we the people select our next Legislator.
This is one reason why PETER SILLIMAN is running as a WRITE IN CANDIDATE for the 18th District Position 1 Legislator.
