UNLESS…

It’s the best kept secret in this primary election. Someone is going to get appointed to a Legislative seat instead of getting elected. If you don’t act now, your vote will not count.

Here is how it is going down; you have Brandon Vick as candidate one. Brandon ran for the 18TH Legislative District Position 1 seat in 2010 and received 2033 votes in the primary. He has also been the Clark County GOP Chairman for two years. You have Adrian Cortes who filed as candidate two. Adrian then “Dropped out”, but after the deadline to remove his name from the ballot. He is NOT running.

Here is what your ballot will look like;

STATE REPRESENTATIVE
18TH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT
POSITION NO. 1
Vote For One

O Brandon Vick

(Prefers Republican Party)

O Adrian Cortes

(Prefers Republican Party)

O Write-in

________________________________

The catch here is that a vote for Brandon or Adrian means Brandon will be UNOPPOSED on the November ballot. Adrian’s name may appear there, but he is NOT running.

Brandon will NOT have to campaign, he will NOT have to tell you his views, he will NOT have to EARN YOUR VOTE. This is not how an “Election” is supposed to work. We are supposed to have the REAL top two contenders on the November ballot.

At this point, there is only one remedy; A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE.

Peter Silliman has been married for 22 years and has 12 children. He is a Senior Engineer at CenturyLink. They support homebirths, homeschool, and raise dairy goats on 10 acres near La Center. The main issues for Peter include stopping the wasteful CRC and light rail, removing absurd storm water regulations that stifle development, and revising L&I and B&O taxes to reduce the government burden on small businesses. Peter wants to see a return of Integrity, Consistency, and Liberty to our state laws and Legislature. Find Peter at www.petersilliman.com or www.facebook.com/electpetersilliman

If you want to support Peter, or just have an honest election in November, you will need to CHECK THE BOX AND WRITE HIM IN ON YOUR PRIMARY BALLOT.

Write-in

___PETER SILLIMAN___

You will then have two candidates fighting for your vote until November, AS IT SHOULD BE.

Republican legislative candidate Brandon Vick might not have it as easy as he expected this election season.

Although the only other candidate to file in the race for Position 1 representative in the 18th Legislative District, Adrian Cortes, dropped out last month, a write-in candidate has emerged to run against Vick.

Republican Peter Silliman, 43, of La Center, said he is running as a write-in candidate to give voters a more conservative option. He also said competition is healthy for the election process.

“There are some serious disadvantages to going unopposed,” Silliman said on Friday. Running a competitive race allows candidates to get a better sense of what their constituents want, and makes whichever candidate is chosen a more confident legislator, he added.

Even when Vick believed he was running unopposed, he said last month that he still planned to run a strong campaign in order to increase his name recognition. Because Cortes dropped out after the deadline to officially withdraw, Cortes’ name will still appear on the ballot next to Vick.

Silliman said he will campaign at a grassroots level and mail out fliers as part of his strategy to get voters to write his name down on the ballot rather than vote for Vick.

Silliman said he wasn’t planning to run for office for a couple of years, but several people approached him to encourage him to run once it was discovered that Vick would be unopposed. Silliman considers himself a “conservative Republican,” and his personal Facebook page includes several statements of support for libertarian Texas Congressman Ron Paul.

Silliman, a telephone company engineer and a father of 12, said he attended the Washington State Republican Convention as a Paul delegate, but he now doubts Paul will win the GOP presidential nomination.

Bill Buckley described conservatism as a fight against the “Social Engineers” of society that want us all to conform to their version of a Utopia. It is the opposite of conservatism which supports the people making their own informed decisions. This Elitism has infiltrated our Republican Party. There are certain elements that want to control, coordinate, and run things. You are invited along for the ride but don’t get to control the direction of the boat. The result has been that people feel disenfranchised and pessimistic about their ability to truly affect change through the political process.

We have an example of this engineering in the 18th district. Certain Party insiders had information that this Legislative seat would come open. They only shared that with those in their inner circle. The result is a candidate who is now unopposed for this open seat.

“What could be wrong with that?” some may ask. The election cycle demands that the people get a choice. It is through this process that WE the people decide who the best candidate is and WE place them in office.

There are actually some serious pitfalls for a candidate to run unopposed. What mandate would he have in office? What could he confidently represent as the will of his constituents? He finds all this out in the open election process where we the people chose him with our vote and instill him with our confidence. This follows him into office and makes him a stronger legislator.

We need an open election process where we the people select our next Legislator.

This is one reason why PETER SILLIMAN is running as a WRITE IN CANDIDATE for the 18th District Position 1 Legislator.

For Immediate Release:

Today La Center Resident and Republican Party member Peter Silliman (43) announced that he will challenge former Clark County Republican Party Chairman, Brandon Vick, for the 18th Legislative District, Position 1. This seat was vacated by Ann Rivers as she was appointed to the 18th District Senate seat.” After some soul searching, and discussion with family and friends, I have decided to make a bid for the State Representative (Position1) seat for the 18th Legislative District.

“I have a large family (12 children), and see the future impact of the malaise and inaction on many critical social and economic issues in the past several legislative sessions. I believe the voters of the 18th District deserve better. I plan to be an active servant leader, pursuing a better future for the working families of our district. I will be accountable to ALL of our district residents and make decisions based on “what is right’ instead of decisions that protect politicians, parties, or cronies. I know a write in campaign will be tough but I think it is the right thing to do.”

He believes that this work experience and proven leadership will serve the 18th District well in bringing in job creators, establishing business development planning. He will be working for a better future for not only his children, but all future citizens of this district. Mr. Silliman also states that “economic and social success for our working families is the foundation for broad societal success. Policies that support this will be a focus of Silliman.

Peter would like to respectfully request that all Primary Election Voters consider his election campaign and WRITE IN PETER SILLIMAN as their choice for 18th District Position 1 House of Representatives. “You will be glad you did”, states Peter.
